App Store Asset Library is Apple's new App Store Connect hub for storing, pre-approving, and reusing images, videos, screenshots, and app previews across product pages, custom product pages, In-App Events, and Apple Ads. It centralizes assets, but it doesn't decide what to produce.
Apple doesn't build centralized asset management for a problem that doesn't exist. Asset Library is Apple acknowledging that App Store creative has outgrown the app submission workflow — and with new headers, search results visuals, and Apple Ads placements arriving this fall, the number of assets per app is about to jump again.
The teams that benefit won't be the ones who start uploading first. They'll be the ones who arrive with a system: what gets produced, how it's named, when it gets approved, and who owns it.
What is App Store Asset Library?
App Store Asset Library is a centralized space in App Store Connect for managing an app's visual assets and reusing them across the App Store. Apple lists it as coming this fall.
According to Apple, Asset Library lets you:
Upload and manage images, videos, app previews, and screenshots in one place
Reuse assets in multiple places across the App Store
Submit assets independently of an app submission
Get assets approved in advance for a future product page update or Apple Ads campaign
Access the library while configuring custom product pages and In-App Events
Alongside it, Apple is adding a product page preview tool in App Store Connect to see how your header, app name, description, screenshots, and search results creative will look before publishing.
Which new App Store creative assets Asset Library manages
Beyond screenshots and app previews, Asset Library holds Apple's new brand and content visuals — images and videos that show your brand, seasonal offers, or new content rather than only your app in use.
Surface | Where it appears | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Product page header | Top of your product page | First visual on the page |
Search results creative | App Store search and Apple Games app search | Competes directly in results |
App Store features | Custom product pages | Testable with product page optimization |
Apple Ads | Today tab and search results campaigns |

Why new asset types multiply your workload
Every new asset type multiplies across each page, locale, device class, and test variant. A few new surfaces can quadruple the assets a team manages.
Here's an illustrative example for one app in one locale with 10 active custom product pages. Assumptions are stated because Apple hasn't published per-page requirements for every new asset type.
Asset | Before WWDC26 | After WWDC26 + iPhone Duo |
|---|---|---|
iPhone screenshots (5 per page × 11 pages) | 55 | 55 |
iPhone Duo outer display screenshots (if designed natively) | - | 55 |
iPhone Duo inner display, portrait + landscape (if designed natively) | - | 110 |
App previews (1 per page) | 11 | 11 |
Product page headers (assumed 1 per page) | - | 11 |
Search results creative (assumed 1 per page) | - | 11 |
Product page optimization treatments (up to 3) | 3 | 3 |
Apple Ads creative (assumed 4) | - | 4 |
Total per locale | 69 | 260 |
Multiply by five locales and a team goes from roughly 345 assets to 1,300. Each one needs to be produced, reviewed, approved, and tracked.
The bottleneck is no longer making one great asset. It's instantiating a winning concept correctly across every surface, and knowing which version is live where. That's the same capability gap we cover in our UA creative production software buyer's guide.
Where iPhone Duo fits in the asset matrix
iPhone Duo is one more multiplier: two display states, each with portrait and landscape dimensions, applied to every page that needs them.
We won't repeat the specs here. For confirmed dimensions, upload timing, and a production checklist, see iPhone Duo ASO: Don't Resize, Rethink. For how to test whether Duo users behave differently before investing in dedicated paid creative, see iPhone Duo UA: Why the Real Opportunity Is a Form Factor Hypothesis.
The operational point is simpler: Duo and Asset Library land in the same season. Plan them as one production wave, not two.
What Asset Library solves, and what it doesn't
Asset Library solves storage, reuse, and approval timing. It doesn't solve what to produce, how to govern it across tools, or how performance feeds back into the next brief.
What it solves:
One source of truth for App Store and Apple Ads visuals
Approval decoupled from app binary releases
Pre-approval for future product page updates and campaigns
Direct access when building custom product pages and In-App Events
A preview step before anything goes live
What it doesn't solve:
Prioritization. It stores assets; it doesn't tell you which concept deserves 260 variants.
Paid social. Meta, TikTok, and Google creative live outside it. Format requirements there differ — see our short-form video UA playbook.
Cross-tool naming and versioning. Your design tool, Asset Library, and your ad platforms still need a shared convention.
The performance loop. Results still have to flow back into briefs — the creative intelligence loop doesn't run itself.
Ownership. A shared library with two teams and no owner becomes a shared mess.
The creative ops system to build before the fall rollout
Teams should have five things in place before Asset Library opens: a format matrix, a naming convention, a pre-approval calendar, a QA gate, and a single owner.
1. A format matrix for every concept
Every creative concept should ship with a matrix listing each surface it needs to exist on, the dimensions each requires, and who approves each variant. Build it at the brief stage, not after production.
2. A naming convention that survives three tools
Assets move between your design tool, Asset Library, and Apple Ads. Use one pattern everywhere, for example:
[surface]_[page]_[locale]_[device]_[orientation]_[concept]_[version] header_cpp-rpg_en-us_duo-inner_land_c07_v2
When a test wins, you should be able to find every sibling of that asset in seconds.
3. A pre-approval calendar
Pre-approval is the most underrated part of Asset Library. Because assets can be approved ahead of a future product page update or Apple Ads campaign, seasonal and event creative no longer has to wait for an app release.
Approve holiday headers and search creative weeks before the season, not days.
Pair launches: Apple's updated submission flow lets you group In-App Purchases with In-App Events, custom product pages, and product page optimization tests in one submission. A content drop can ship as one coordinated package.
4. A QA gate using product page preview
Before publishing, check every page in product page preview for text truncation, header-to-screenshot consistency, and correct locale. Make it a required step, not an optional one.
5. One owner across ASO and Apple Ads
Name a single owner for the library. ASO and Apple Ads will both pull from it; someone has to decide what gets archived, replaced, or promoted.
Common mistakes to avoid
Treating headers as screenshot remixes. Apple positions them for brand, seasonal, and content storytelling. Brief them as a new format.
Uploading before governance exists. A library filled without naming rules becomes impossible to audit within one quarter.
Planning Duo and Asset Library separately. They multiply the same matrix. One production wave is cheaper than two.
Ignoring the performance loop. More surfaces without creative-level tagging means more installs you can't attribute to any asset.
FAQ
What is App Store Asset Library? A centralized space in App Store Connect for uploading, managing, and reusing images, videos, screenshots, and app previews across product pages, custom product pages, In-App Events, and Apple Ads campaigns.
When will Asset Library be available? Apple lists it as coming this fall, as of September 25, 2026. Check App Store Connect and Apple's What's New page for the exact rollout.
Do I still need an app update to change App Store visuals? Apple says Asset Library lets you submit assets independently of an app submission and get them approved in advance for a future product page update. Confirm the exact flow in App Store Connect once it ships.
Can Apple Ads use Asset Library creative? Yes. Apple says assets can be pre-approved for Apple Ads campaigns, and the new visuals can appear on the Today tab and in search results.
Does Asset Library replace creative production software? No. It manages and approves App Store assets. It doesn't generate variants, cover paid social platforms, or connect creative performance to your next brief.
